Christmas in ILOILO: The Philippines' City of Love

It's indeed the most wonderful time of the year! Iloilo City, now considered as one of the top destinations in the country can just be more exciting. Here's what the City of Love can offer to tourists and the Ilonggos to enjoy this holiday season:
1. The Provincial Capitol, Atrium Mall & Days Hotel Iloilo
WE LOVE FOOD! It's a fact. So our food destination can just be at The Promenade of Days Hotel Iloilo.
It's the grandest buffet in Iloilo and this Christmas eve, it'll just be more than grand!
 Banana Cream Pie from Tinapayan:
With Graham base, custard w/ fresh banana filling and whipping cream topping.
French Macarons:
Strawberry, Pistacio, Hazelnut, Salted Caramel, Mint with Truffle filling, chocolate passionfruit, chocolate made of coverture chocolate.
Part of Misa de Gallo Breakfast Buffet at Days Hotel Iloilo:

2. Calle Real
Every Saturday from 5PM to Sunday midnight, the pedestrianization of Calle Real takes place. A portion of J.M. Basa street from Socorro Drugstore down to the Regent Theater is closed to vehicles and everyone can just walk around shop. Starting today December 21, Coffee shops, bakeries and other food products will be available for everyone.
3. Molo District
Don't miss the beautiful Plaza of Molo district. It's presently one of the most beautiful around the city as it was just restored this year. The nearby GT Plaza Mall houses several restaurants like Moonleaf, Binalot, Ted's La Paz Batchoy, Pan de Manila and the Heavenly Cafe. I love their cheesecakes! Try also their Tea Latte, Green Tea frappe and their Tuna Pasta!

4. Mandurriao District
Aside from Smallville Complex (Riverside Boardwalk, The Avenue) and Megaworld, SM City and Plazuela de Iloilo are some of the great destinations in this district. Of course, the Iloilo River Esplanade is still everyone's favorite. At the Tabucan side where One Esplanade is located, Coffeebreak and Quix Mart just opened their newest branches!

Misa de Gallo Breakfast buffet

From December 16 to 24, The Promenade at Days Hotel Iloilo will offer The Misa De Gallo Breakfast Buffet from 5 to 10AM. A few days before Christmas, most Filipino Catholics attend the everyday mass. The breakfast at Days can just be the best place to spend time with the family after hearing mass. From cereals to juices, yogurt, bread with jams and the soup, guests automatically have the option to eat something after the long fast from their dinner the previous night.

Reyes Barbecue

We had lunch at Reyes Barbecue Robinson's Place Iloilo this Sunday. Though its been open in a humble space beside Classic Savory for several months now, we just went there to try their boneless chicken and the peanut sauce and we were not disappointed. This restaurant that started in Manila is now attracting customers in the city of love and indeed their marinated chicken is lovely! We also had Tuna belly that perfectly tasted well with their java sauce. Though prices are kinda like Manila-ish also, I think it's worth the price. Their meal serving wasn't just enough for me though.

Joyjoy's Seafood Restaurant

Had lunch at Joyjoy's Seafood Restaurant's branch in Nabitasan, Leganes lately. I wanted to eat catfish and baked talaba or oyster but it was not available. Good thing the chicken inasal was juicy and cooked to perfection. The stuffed squid looked fine and I just knew it was fresh. The best thing that we had was the adobado nga alimusan. It felt like eating catfish since you can really savor the fatty part of it! But hey, no guilt because fish fat is really good for the health. Cooked in coconut milk, this dish was really something.
The place was just fine as it was like dining in a huge bahay kubo. I hope more restaurants here in Iloilo like Joyjoy's will give more attention to the "beautification" of their place. If I was not too pleased with their dishes, I would never come back because it was too far from the city- a long drive at the coastal road towards this place where many vehicles are parked for lunch. Maybe perfect for those who are on the road for distant travel towards Dumangas, Barotac or etc., but all in all it was not disappointing. Please level up lang gamay sa place kag pa add dessert ha.... Kay namit gd d!

Icepot Opening at Robinson's Place Iloilo

Icepot has made its way to Iloilo City at Robinson's Place beside Chika-an Restaurant. Known to offer Premium Italian Frozen Yogurt and other products, I was really delighted to have tried different flavors and toppings that I myself combined!
GMA-7 artist Bea Benene graced the store's opening. She performed several songs, signed her album and demonstrated to the fans how they can simply make their own frozen yogurt creations adorned with colorful toppings and have that taste suited to one's preference. She was indeed very lovely and we were glad to have seated beside her.

Freska Hometown Buffets

Located at the Ayala Technohub building, Freska Ilonggo Seafood and Inasal that started in Iloilo City and now has branches in Metro Manila recently opened its first Hometown Buffets. Iloilo's famed Chef Pauline Gorriceta-Banusing conceptualized this buffet that serves local flavors of Iloilo and the nearby provinces.

Before trying out everything, I made sure to have their La Paz Batchoy. It was of course fantastic! After Kris RealiTV visited Iloilo City last year, Chef Pauline prepared this dish with Kris in her studio. I just knew that I'll love it, and I did! Ilonggo buffets can never be complete without this.

After trying out some of their appetizers and the rest of the dishes, I liked their lechon kawali, baked oysters (talaba), imbao shells and the sweet chili crabs.

Lechon Kawali- fried to perfection! Crunchy, tasty and sometimes guilty! Hehe.
Baked Talaba! Well, it's the trend for oysters these past few years. Check attendance here!
Imbao shells or the Mangrove clams: its usually bigger than oysters, it also has a distinct taste which is also interesting.
Sweet Chili Crabs!

If you want to experience the best of Ilonggo cooking and some of the best dishes, I highly reccomend that you bring your family, friends or colleagues at Freska.
