Christmas Specials at The Promenade

Days Hotel Iloilo on the 4th floor of Atrium Mall is definitely one of my favorite destinations. Not only do they offer the best buffets in the city, they are also home to fine desserts and drinks. This Christmas, its surely more surprising to munch on these sweets treats and drink up some alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

Christmas Butterscotch & Muffins @ Coffeebreak

After having lunch at The Avenue recently, we tried Coffeebreak Cafe's Christmas Special Muffins and Butterscotch in exciting flavors such as dates, cranberry, blueberry and golden raisin. I'm a big butterscotch fan and the ones that are available at this chain of cafes around the city are made with standards and too perfect for pasalubong! Meanwhile, if you've skipped breakfast or just hungry in the afternoon why not treat yourself to a muffin or two at Coffeebreak.

Don't ever miss savoring their Christmas specials at any branch around the city of love.

Happy Eating!

Punot introduces Ilonggo Brunch

One of the restaurants that I usually recommend whenever people ask me where to dine in Iloilo City is Punot. This restaurant that started in the seafood-bounty town of Estancia, Iloilo has been well-loved by the people here in Iloilo City since they opened here at the Esplanade (also known as Riverside) Boardwalk in Smallville complex more than a year ago. By adding some modern twist to well-loved Ilonggo and other Filipino dishes, Punot has become one of the most innovative restos that still stays true to its purpose that is to serve good food.

Chef Tope Arañador personally prepared these mouthwatering goodies as his sister, marketing-professional in Singapore, Andrea explained "Weekend Brunchin' @ Punot" plate by plate.

First, I was surprised to see Bucayo (caramelized young coconut meat) on top of the French Toast. I thought, "Why not?!" I think it's a genius combination plus the whipping cream. Very Filipino since coconut is abundant in our country. The taste? Heavenly!
ILONGGO TOAST: Punot's take on the classic French Toast- a sweet dish of Pan-fried bread with milk. Topping options include 1. BUCAYO (carmelized coconut meat) + cream, 2. Maple Banana Chips + cream and 3. Apple cinnamon + melted local cacao (chocolate).

Next, we had Blueberries on top of Pancakes with whipping cream. This didn't impress me much at first because this one is commonly served elsewhere. For me, blueberries became one of the top new flavors in the recent years, everyone preferred it on top of their cheesecakes, muffins, pancakes or whatever. It really became famous lately. Available in cans from America, these berries are also known to posses anti-cancer compounds.

Just look closer at the pancakes and you will see that they're softer and thinner. It's simply because that these pancakes are made similar to crepes.
The traditional street Pinoy hotcakes- Punot style! Topped with 1. Blueberries and cream, it is also available with 2. Chocolate Ganache and 3. Dulceala Ube. I'm dying to taste the third one!
Ladies and gentlemen, lo and behold my favorite of them all- the Punot Ilonggo Brekky! Garlic rice topped with local classics that include longganisa, tapa strips, tocino, fried rice and danggit (dried fish)! You also have the option to add maple bacons, more sunny-side-up or scrambled eggs, ham and garlic rice. This meal is actually good for 2, 3 or even 4 (plus the add-ons of course). But starve me for 12 hours and I can eat all this up.

Eggs Benedict, a brunch staple that has poached eggs, pan de sal + Punot's special hollandaise sauce.
But the photo below has no meat, it comes with bangus (milkfish) an interesting combination to try also.

Inspired by the Spanish Croquettas, Punot's version has the local bayi-bayi inside.
Morning Glory- a refreshing combination of apple, orange, green mango & Punot's special syrup.

Caffe ala Italia:

Punot embraces the concept of slow food. An alternative to fastfood. They don't compromise on the quality of cooking- taking no shortcuts and only using the finest ingredients and freshest local produce. Their foods are indeed worth the wait.

Krispy Kreme Iloilo now open

Krispy Kreme Iloilo City SM Doughnuts
Ilonggos are not only sweet we also love to eat anything sweet! For years, we have been dreaming to see a Krispy Kreme store open up in the City of Love because we would usually have our loved ones buy a dozen or more of these sweet treats from Manila. Today we now have more reasons to celebrate as Krispy Kreme Doughnuts officially opened at SM City Iloilo recently. Ilonggos welcomed the store's opening by falling in line hours before the actual opening and the first few individuals who have bought a dozen of dougnuts each won supplies of original glazed donuts for a year, six & three months and a month respectively. After the 1st 100 buyers were awarded and the ribbons were cut by the City Mayor, Hon. Jed Patrick Mabilog, SM Mall and Krispy Kreme Managements, buyers continued to form long lines to buy these amazing treats.

Wild Bamboo @ SM City Iloilo

I admire young entrepreneurs, for me they have their motivation and goals in life planned. It's definitely moving forward and trying to prove themselves. Meet Paolo Sarabia Treñas, 19 and one of the sons of Cong. Jerry Treñas. I see him as a business-minded individual who just got his big break in doing business that is actually part of his course. Even though he spends time studying in Manila, his enthusiasm and burning desire to succeed can be seen in his eyes.

He took over his mom's spot at the populous food court of SM City Iloilo and he's glad that his other siblings are there to support him. I'm sure his parents are really proud of him.

He just opened Wild Bamboo last Wednesday and told me that a lot of people really lined-up to try their Japanese offerings. Of course, my besfriend Krishia and I had to visit and meet him there personally after having a few conversations online. As expected, he was hands-on in the preparation of their food and I see their staff eager to know their food very well. When I approached their counter to see what to eat for lunch, I was amazed. I surely missed dining at the foodcourt where the food is already there in front of you and you'll just have to choose and pay. But this time it was Paolo's treat for us. He even gave us desserts from Carlo's whoch is available at their counter.

In a competitive world of business where you stand side-by-side with other food establishments in the area, one must really try to do his best to offer quality food at an average price. I'm sure this guy has just started and I'm very honored to be their guest at Wild Bamboo.

"I'll be returning soon, hungry for more!"
