Holiday Cakes at Carlo's

 For decades, Carlo's has been known to be one of Iloilo City's famous bakery-cafes and pasalubong shops. Despite the numerous food establishments that recently opened, they have stood the test of times and continues to provide the Ilonggos with their products. 

 
 With new branches that have opened up in malls all over the region such as in Antique and Capiz, Carlo's will surely remain as one of our favorites.  Thanks to the management for this Black Forest Cake. I can't just go home without bringing this Crema de Fruta and having a cup of my favorite Native Chocolate.

Giving Back this Holiday Season

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year! I would like to take this opportunity to give back the blessings and appreciation to random followers of this blog & its facebook page. Since Cafe Ilonggo Blog was started, we are happy to reach our goals and it is a dream come true to promote Iloilo City as a dining destination and all the delicious offerings that we have thanks to everyone who have helped in spreading the contents that we have by liking, sharing, tagging their friends and even recommending this blog. I would also like to thank my fellow Iloilo Bloggers, media friends and of course restaurant owners who have given us their trust and confidence in helping them uplift their brands. We are pleased to help local businessmen as well as investors who have to our place.


A community close to a million during daytime, Iloilo City has been the center of business and trade for the region. Its progress in economy and other terms have paved the way for ordinary Ilonggos like me and you to become more involved in the promotion of our city. The strong force of Ilonggos here and abroad have helped propelled in making the world know about Iloilo and it too has become like other Philippine cities which are destinations for travel, meetings, conferences and other big events.

Papa Vomito Columbian Resto

 Recently, my dashing relative-fellow blogger Nana Jover invited me to vitsit her cousin's new Columbian restaurant in Guzman st., Mandurriao. I said yes right away since you really don't get to taste Columbian food always.
 Not too far from Imperial subdivision, Papa Vomito is located in one of the newly-built commercial building just along the road (to the right). Nana and her cousin, Ms. Rachel was already there to meet me when I arrived. Though not so spacious, it's still a  nice place to visit. They are also looking into expanding their space soon.
 Ms. Rachel had stayed in Columbia for more that 6 months and has liked their food ever since. She also pointed out that Filipino & Columbian dishes have similarities, considering both countries were colonized by Spain centuries ago.

This dish called Papas El Rodadero is a mix of fries, sausages, ham, chicken and papitas.

 The newly-opened Kamalig restaurant at The Shops @ Atria has throwback memories to share, cozy interiors with furniture that have stories to tell and most importantly, sumptuous dishes to serve made from recipes passed down through generations. Chef Miguel Treñas, the son of Cong. Jerry personally supervises the restaurant's operation.

What not to miss in Iloilo

When you visit Iloilo, you don't go home without bringing some pasalubong or delicacies to take home most especially when it's your first time. From old churches, La Paz batchoy, scenic tours, seafood and its Dinagyang Festival, there's more to this city that you can try visiting, staying or eating.

1. Margec's Cream Horn
Located at E. Lopez st. (across Jollibee near San Jose Catholic School) in Jaro district, this humble store won't surely disappoint. The goods are really mouthwatering and delicious most especially their main product, the Cream Horn. Though the recipe came from a German friend of the owner's late father, they have been perfecting this sweet treat for years. It's open even on Sundays until 7pm.

They also have Napoleones that comes in different flavors- really tasty! Their apple pie is also my favorite.

2. Richmonde Hotel Iloilo - It is located at Megaworld's Iloilo Business Park beside the Iloilo Convention Center. It is one of the latest hotels to open in the city and its contemporary design is award-winning. The rooms are spacious and pool dech has a wonderful view of the 72-hectare property. Truly one of the best places to stay and dine when in the city.
Thanks to Ms. Ana Manansala of Mode Devi's Experience Travel and Living, I was able to contribute an article about the hotel last year. 

Aside from their famous ensaymadas, The Granary on the ground floor also offers this delicious Banana Walnut Loaf. I just love it!
3. Roberto's

In the decades-old with art-deco style Javellana building in Calle Real or J.M. Basa st. in downtown Iloilo is where Roberto's sole shop stands. An old-time business run by a local Chinese family, this place is known for serving affordable and yummilicious meals that's obvious because of their patrons lining up to bring home their famous meatball, pancit and the big-time Queen Siopao. Madame Claude personally manages the cashier many times and he's really funny and entertaining. Don't ever make a big mistake of asking for a sauce for your siopao because the wall signs obviously screams so. Lafang! Lafang! Lafang!
