Ang Kamalig

We were back at Chef Miguel Trenas' Ang Kamalig this time for another round of Filipino dishes cooked with recipes handed down by elder members of their family. The restaurant's name is not new to the Ilonggos in fact when it opened in 2015, many recalled what used to be the Kamalig restaurant in downtown Iloilo. With impressive contemporary interiors such as wooden furniture that came from the trees that were uprooted in the family's garden during the past typhoons, Kamalig is more than just a business but a legacy.

Jollibee opening soon in La Paz

With of all the developments arising all around Iloilo City, most especially at the new business district in Diversion Road, Mandurriao, La Paz is one of the 5 districts of the city that has seen little developments. Mainly because it is a residential area, a lot of this district's open land for future developments are situated away from the center towards north to Jaro and the Municipality of Dumangas. In that area is also where the 2 clean coal-fired powerplants are operating.

Back to the center of the district, in front of the Market is where Jollibee is building its newest branch in the city. A waiting area for a lot of commuters, a 2-storey commercial building used to stand in the area. As a Lapaznon, I have grown buying goods at the place. Why am I stating this? Maybe because I just don't want to forget.

In the past few years we have seen a lot of changes in our city. Most of them developments in infrastructures, commercial establishments and even malls. And a lot of new openings include restaurants and cafes. How long will some of them last? Could the Ilonggos and tourists visiting be enough for them to last long? Well we all know that Jollibee is a big player and a game changer too.

So this development in our district is truly welcome. I guess there will also be a drive-thru in that branch. The bee who's loved by Filipinos is about to open in La Paz soon!

Bo's Coffee at SM City Iloilo Northwing

Bo's Coffee is one of the country's fastest-growing coffeeshop-chain that's proudly local. From its sole standalone cafe here in the city inside the mall and another addition at The Shops at Atria last year, Bo's has recently occupied a spot at the northwing expansion of SM City Iloilo close to a number of dining establishments. Just the perfect destination for a hot cuppa coffee after a meal.

"Homegrown Brews" are proudly sourced from different parts of the country. Arabica beans that were grown and harvested in Benguet and Sagada in Luzon and Mt. Matutum, Mt. Kitanglad and Mt. Apo in Mindanao.

Bo’s Coffee National Operations Manager Ivy Benatiro

The perfect pair for our coffee are these sweets slices of desserts such as this delectable and rich in flavor chocolate cake. Cheesecakes and donuts that come in different flavors for toppings are also a must-try.
On their first day, loyal patrons and members of the local media & blogging individuals were invited for a coffee-appreciation seminar that included a demonstration of the pour-over method of their coffee.

Italian guest chef whips up Italy’s regional dishes in Seda Atria

The delectable traditional dishes of the Italian regions find their way to Iloilo City on March 18 to 20, 2016 with “La Buona Cucina Italiana”, prepared by an Italian chef for Seda Atria at Pison Avenue, San Rafael, Mandurriao.

Guest chef Salvatore de Vincentis will be preparing well-loved Italian regional dishes presented in modern, creative ways – a first for Iloilo. These dishes will be as pleasing to the sight as they are to the taste buds as the chef will use only the freshest of ingredients, including famous cheeses and lemons from his country to ensure distinct and authentic Italian flavors.

The savory dishes will be served the “apericena” way (combination of “aperitif” and “cena” or evening meal) where dishes are in tasting portions in an appetizer buffet. Chef Salvatore will draw from the aromas and flavors of his childhood in Sorrento where he would assist his grandmother and later, restaurateur-uncle, in the kitchen.

For example, Chef Salvatore’s version of caprese in a glass, consists of a delightful cream with the flavor of fresh mozzarella over a tomato-flavored foam and touched with basil in liquid form. Layered to represent the colors of the Italian flag, the dish teases the palate in just the right amount, encouraging diners to partake of the next item on the buffet and enjoying as much as they could of the special all-Italian selection.

The apericena with wine buffet dining experience which offers an extraordinary range of cocktail must-haves together with a prime selection of the best Italian wines at Seda Atria will be on March 18 to 19, 2016 at Straight Up bar from 8 p.m. to midnight at P950 nett.

On the other hand, dinner buffet is on March 18 and 19 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Misto. Lunch buffet is on March 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., also at Misto. These buffets cost P850 nett. Kids aged 7 to 12 years old pay P425 nett while it is complimentary for children aged 6 years and below.

The chef promises, “I always cook with all my heart because diners can sense a chef’s passion in the way the food is presented. I wish for everyone to have a fabulous dining experience. My message is simple: sit, eat, and enjoy!” he says.

SuTuKil Isla Sugbo Seafood City Cebu Cafe Ilonggo
Before Valentines, Isla Sugbu Seafood City at the Grand Convntion Center of Cebu welcomed guests, members of the media and bloggers to their Blogcon. Along with Flavours of Iloilo, we arrived on time for lunch at the Tsay Cheng grand Chinese restaurant. A city tour around Cebu City's famous tourists spots was done after the lunch.

A few minutes before the event started, we arrived at the restaurant still located at the Grand Convention Center of Cebu and had some time to take photos of the place. I was so impressed to see how it was so spacious, well-lit and designed with a bountiful supply of seafood from the rich Visayan sea. Most importantly, I didn't notice any fishy odor.

The crabs, angel wings clam and other shellfishes that they have ready to be cooked are all in good shape and definitely looks fresh.
